First of all, I never quuestion Sue's integrity...she's there for the good of the sport.
However, taking any side of a PROMOTER-FIGHTER contract issue is not always as good for the sport as it might seem.
Sue, you intimated that YOU knew of the PROMOTER(S) PURSE OFFERS given to certain fighter(s) who YOU knew were looking for fights. You said the fighter(s) in question turned down the promoters offer(s) while telling YOU they were looking for fights.
So who is "TOOLING" YOU, the fighter or the promoter?
The answer is in Germany. THOSE promoters seem to find Americans willing and ready to fly over there, step into a stacked deck and take on the PROMOTER's GIRL. WHY?
Its PRIZE FIGHTING, not FIGHTING FOR SUE, not FIGHTING FOR A CHEESY PROMOTER, not GETTING LOWBALLED, not GIVING YOUR BLOOD FOR PEANUTS. What is the prize? a Belt and a decent purse or cold dog food in the national guard auditorium?
So any fighter can say, I want to fight. But I don't want to fight for PEANUTS. Simple yet complex in complete understanding.
Look, its NOT beyond a "typical" cheese-ball promoter to say ONE thing to you ( even fax you a phoney document) and then offer a different amount to the fighter(s) in question.
We do know this, when fighter makes a decent PRIZE, they fight like all get out.
When fighters are offered peanuts, they schloff the offer aside and sit around.
Sure there are fighters out there taking any offer and they are warriors, but that act sets the bar much lower for everyone else. A typical PROMOTER ANGLE, look at ABC, she fought for a bag of SouthWest Airline peanuts and she's one hell of lot better/exciting/experienced/firece than you, fighter XYZ!
Fighter ZYZ is shamed into fighting below ABC's purse which in turn will get ABC a lower offer next fight.
If anyone was serious about women's boxing, they would model the German model, build local interest AND PPV interest and start offering real purses.
Or the Chuck Norris WCL model, teams compete within a league while having a cable network back them ( VS. Network is outstanding for buying fights).
Of course, Sue you could be totally right, the fighter you talked with DID get a real offer but didn't see themself being competitive with who the promoter wanted to match them. It happens.
But think of all those brave ladies who stepped into the ring with Mia and took their very life into their hands while having one or two fights experience while Mia had 17 or 24 or 32 fights on her record!
