I was stressing to a kickboxing friend, the benefit of having an amateur boxing career before turning pro as a BOXER. I gave him a list of about twenty (20) world champions who had extensive am boxing careers:
here was his reply below underlined with quotes :
"the rules of amateur boxing changed quite recently. Nowadays, the current amateur bouts dont even resemble the pro bouts, it looks like a different sport.
So any lists of previous boxing champions you come up with is irrelevant. We will have to wait and see how many of the current crop of amateurs that learned their trade under the new scoring system make it to the top of the pro game"
I was not aware of any drastic rule changes recently.
Is he correct? have the am rules drastically changed recently? if so, are the new rules so different that an amateur career can no longer be useful before turning pro?
any comments pro or con are welcomed.
