Edmonton, Alberta will play host to a huge boxing card this month, March 28th to be exact, featuring no less than 2 title bouts and a return of a former Canadian and British Commonwealth champion to the ring after a lengthy hiatas. The main event of the evening will be the completion of a trilogy as Jelena Mrdjenovich (21-2-1, 11 KO's), the current WBC Super Featherweight champion of the world, takes on Layla McCarter (29-13-5, 7 KO's) for McCarter's WBA Lightweight title. These two ladies have a history and what a history it is. In 2005 in Edmonton, McCarter handed an undefeated Mrdjenovich her first defeat as a pro in taking a rather lopsided unanimous decision over 6 rounds. Just 4 months later, Mrdjenovich avenged her defeat by winning an 8 round unanimous decision over McCarter, who battled the last couple a rounds....with a BROKEN arm! Jelena's victory and Layla's grit produced 2 winners that night. Since their last encounter (3 months sly of 3 years), both fighters have improved dramatically. Mrdjenovich has gone 9-1-1 in 11 bouts while capturing 3 world titles (making 4 defenses of her WBC Featherweight strap). McCarter has gone 9-2-1 in 12 bouts while capturing 2 world title including the forementioned WBA strap. On March 28th at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, it will be champion vs champion for what could be the final time with the winners being those who attend the bout.
