Well now, sometimes logic runs in reverse ABOVE the equator...as in,
"And after fighting 52 fights I can assure if you can't knock someone out with 10 oz gloves you aren't going to do it with 8, especially not me."
Wasn't that supposed to be the other way around, if you can't with 8s then you won't with 10's?
HUM, 10's very dangerous, 8s- not as dangerous...this is awhole chapter in a the big inside scoops on boxing from a knockout. Should be interesting.
I do applaud Mia for using the contracts she signed from her past fights as the template for her contract going forward. Pretty big tip there for all you boxers out there...when you see a tough detailed contract from a promoter, copy it, use parts you like to make up your own contract. Very smart. Mia is proving to be highly resourceful and an excellent business woman/promoter.
But the 10s VS 8s gave me a nice chuckle. And a good friend of mine also.

Although the wording of her statement is a bit confusing, I understand Mia St. John.
She is saying that regardless of glove size, no one is going to knock her out. After the wake-up call from Rolanda Andrews, St. John has proven this statement to be true with some of the hardest punchers in her weight class.
Boxing gloves were developed to protect the hands and wrists of the wearer, not the face and body of the opponent. Headgear, kidney belts, and assorted protective gear were created for that purpose.
Mia St. John, I hope you visit this forum on occasion. You’ll find the discussions interesting, especially the discourse about a national boxing commission.
I recommend you avoid a spitting contest with KO Boxing Promotions. As I’ve stated before, the Mrdjenovich bout did not result in the knockout expected by many and, in my opinion, the promoter is looking for excuses to explain the outcome. If it’s any consolation, some of the veterans of boxing (including some of your detractors) did believe the fight would go the distance.
In your next letter to WBAN, consider mentioning this forum so the public can read the threads on these subjects.
Your complaint about the judging and Edmonton Sun reporting are understandable. We’ll score the fight ourselves when it’s broadcast.
Finally, don’t discount all the rumors you’ve heard surrounding this contest. Some may prove to be true.

Yes the gloves protect the hand/wrist and they also protect the HEAD from a very hard blow. I disagree totally with your read on Mia's statement.
She liked wearing 8's when she was whooping on novices who were fighting in big time venues for Mia's promoter. After Rolanda gave her a long trip 5 feet down, she realized that 8s hurt if she is going to fight punchers. So thus the 10oz clause in Mia's contract was born.
Consider, she is exactly knocking the world out either, since her 8s days against novices.
And a shot in 8s hurts more than the exact same shot in 10s.
The problem I see with Mia is responsibility. She shoulders NONE. It was always a promoters deed that was dirty, never her own actions. That don't hunt, ever. She always cashed their check and eagerly asked for more and got it. Now, near the end of her career, she wants to cash in on a book about her "career", not her "career with a promoter", her "career".
I'd just love to put her on a lie detector the first time she goes on Oprah to promote the book and Oprah stupidly swollows the story, like she likes to cuz that makes "good tv". Total BS.
8's are what fighters fight in. 10s are for amateurs unless you can hoodwink the promoter. The Canadian should have paid her the extra money to get her into 8s.
