Marcela Acuna (22-5-0, 14 KO) vs Maria Potenza (3-4-1, 0 KO) Saturday, 1/27. This is a dangerous match for Potenza.
Potenza's three wins are against two debuters and an opponent with a 0-1-1 record.
Acuna should be fighting Alejandra Oliveras or rematching with Sharon Anyos.

on paper, Acuna appears to be potentially too potent for potenza.

www.womenboxing.com/NEWS2007/news052207mcgee.htmMary McGee will fight Eva Lidia Silva on June 8th in Gary, Indiana and televised on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo”. McGee has a record of 9-0 with 5 stoppages. However, 6 wins have been against opponents with losing records and 3 against debuters. McGee’s opponent Silva has a record of 4-7 with no stoppages. Three of her four wins were against the same opponent, Perla Hermandez and the fourth against debuter Leticia Sandoval, all in Mexico. McGee’s only fight against a winning opponent was the bout with Rita Figueroa in November of last year, declared a no-contest after a head butt cut Figueroa. Figueroa has defeated Silva twice. Melissa Hernandez (7-1-1, 2 stoppages) offered to fight McGee. The rest of the card has several competitive match-ups. But the McGee-Silva bout is more padding for McGee’s record and, in my opinion, a mismatch not worthy of television coverage.

But McGee did not stop Silva. Someone should explain to Mary McGee that if she wants to box, she needs to shorten her fingernails so they don't cut her hands. McGee remains untested. A rematch with Rita Figueroa is needed. A waste of valuable broadcast airspace for women's boxing.

On July 20th at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago:
Brooke Dierdorff (4-0-1) vs Kornelija Numic (1-0-1)
As a boxer, Numic has fought the same opponent twice, Jenna Shiver, Shiver's only contests. Numic is a title-holding KICKBOXER, not a boxer.
With boxing rules, Numic has little chance in this bout. In my opinion, Hitz Boxing Promotions has booked a dangerous mismatch. . . .
Welcome to the forum, Brooke Dierdorff (nomercyboxerchic)

On July 31st , fightnews.ca reported Kelli Cofer would meet Jelena Mrdjenovich for the vacant WBA Women’s Super Featherweight title on September 28th in Edmonton.
Now, on insidewomensboxing.com:
On September 28 in Edmonton, (Jelena) Mrdjenovich will be taking on Florida’s Marisol Miranda, 3-4, for the WBA Women’s Super Featherweight championship. If the Edmonton boxer wins, it will be her fourth world title belt, to go along with the WBC and IWBF superfeatherweight titles, and the WIBF lightweight championship, in less than two years.
Where is Kelli Cofer? And why is the WBA sanctioning the Mrdjenovich-Miranda contest?

i agree, Mrdjenovich vs Miranda is a total mismatch. Miranda, whos record is 3-4, is a natural 115 pounder! WBA dropped the ball on this one. RYAN

Dierdorff is obviously the favorite here, but she only has 5 pro fights, and after beating Mia she will not have an easy time finding willing opponants for reasonable purses. these situations come about behind the scenes. Kumic is not a bad fighter, and like you said she has tons of kickboxing experience so she has the stamina and training to make a fight with Brooke. Dierdorff should win but i dont think it is a dangerous mismatch. RYAN

Maureen Shea defeated Jessica Mohs on September 5th by TKO round 2 in New York, Shea's home state.
Shea now has a record of 12-0 with one NC. Mohs is 7-16. In my opinion, the bout was more padding of Shea's record.

In My Opinion:
Mary McGee will fight KeLah Pollari on September 21st at the Radisson Star Plaza in Merrillville, Indiana.
McGee has a record of 10-0 with 5 stoppages. However, 7 wins have been against opponents with losing records and 3 against debuters.
McGee’s opponent Pollari has a record of 0-3, losing all three by stoppage. Pollari’s first professional fight, a TKO loss in the first round was against … Mary McGee.
This contest is more padding for McGee’s record.
McGee is scheduled to fight for the vacant NABC 135 lb. belt in Indianapolis on October 19th. Who will be the opponent? Will she have a winning record?

Mary is being set up for failure by padding her record. see: Jose "The Threat" Baret. He was like 39-0, 38 KOs when he finally "stepped up" and was brutally exposed by Marlon "Magic Man" Starling.

Jaime Clampitt vs. Gloria Ramirez, 10/12, in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
Ramirez is 10-16-5. Her wins are primarily against boxers early in their careers or boxers with losing records. She has fought several boxers multiple times.

She has fought several boxers multiple times. This is true, but fighters need to take a "keep busy" fight every now and then. What's in it for Ramirez? A chance to score an upset and make a name for herself. Ramirez has more than 30 fights. She should be able to take care of herself and at the very least go the distance. We'll see!

womenboxing.com/NEWS2007/news110107moreno.htmCarina Moreno vs. Emily Kelley on 11/8. Kelley's record is 2-2-1. Moreno is a titleholder. Team Moreno calls this a "tune up" fight for a December title defense. In my opinion, Moreno needs to do her tune-ups in the gym and owes Hollie Dunaway a rematch for the "sick, mean joke" of 100-90 (3) scoring of their recent fight.

I don't have problems with "tune-ups," per se, but someone of Moreno's experience against someone with so few pro fights seems off. Once again, we go back to the not enough women opponents with career credentials problem ... a vicious circle. Maybe the women are smarter than the men and get out of the game quicker when they realize a title is not in the cards for them (LOL!)
Anyway, do we know who Moreno is "tuning up" to face? Surely my fellow former Arkansan and current Missourian Dunaway deserves a rematch sometime soon ...

Rita Figueroa (9-0, 3 stoppages) vs. Danielle Christiansen (2-5, 2 stoppages); November 16th, Cicero, Illinois
Christiansen's two wins were against fighters with 0-1 records who have not fought since.
While this is Figueroa's first contest following shoulder surgery almost a year ago, this bout is less of a test than a good sparring session, in my opinion.

I agree my fight is not the perfect match - but coming off of shoulder surgery and being out for a year - it's the fight I need to get back in the ring. I need to test the shoulder and myself. I am not the youngest boxer around. Records can be deceiving and it only takes one ounch - we all know that.

On April 14, 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, former IFBA and WIBA world titleholder Maribel Zurita (114 lbs) fought to a six-round draw with 37-year-old Emily Kelly (112½ lbs) of Houston, Texas who moved her record to 2-2-1 (1 KO) with the result. Did anyone here (Esteban?) see this drawn six-round fight between Maribel Zurita and Emily Kelly, and if so would they like to comment on whether THAT was a "mismatch"?

Jelena Mrdjenovich (21-2-0) vs. Dominga Olivio (4-2-0), December 7th, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Mrdjenovich is defending her WBC Female Super Featherweight title.
Olivio has 4 wins, one against an opponent with an 0-3 record (who has not fought since the Olivio fight), one win against a 1-0 fighter, and two wins against the same opponent as a debuter and with a 0-1 record.
Why is the WBC sanctioning this fight as a title defense?

I wonder if this is the kind of thing that Berny was talking about when he said Sanctioning bodies should sanction or was it shouldn't sanction in order to help give female boxing more credibility. Shouldn't the fighters be free to fight whoever they want but at the same time shouldn't the sanctioning body decide which fights are worthy of a title fight? Allan
