Jelena Mrdjenovich needs a stoppage of Olga Heron. Their two previous contests ended with decisions, the first one controversial and the second a wrestling match.
Mrdjenovich’s reputation suffered with the Mia St. John bout. Mrdjenovich was embarrassed by St. John’s experience, conditioning, and effective right-hand punches to her head. Mrdjenovich’s conditioning was questioned because she tired significantly starting with the fifth round.
Heron cannot win by decision in Edmonton. But a decision for Mrdjenovich would raise questions about Team Mrdjenovich’s fight strategy and Mrdjenovich’s reputation as a knockout artist.
Expect Mrdjenovich to charge Heron at the beginning of the fight, looking for an early knockout. If Heron weathers the storm, Mrdjenovich may wear herself out like she did with St. John. Mrdjenovich desperately needs a knockout.

I had Mrdjenovich winning the St. John fight 8-1-1 in rounds which at least one judge also had scored. Those St. John right hands were piterpat arm punches with no weight behind them while Jelena pounded St. John's guts out with her body attack. I am not even a big Mrdjenovich fan, and I think she made the right decision to drop back to Lightweight where she will keep reach and height advantages.
I am happy to see Kara Ro back in boxing, and I hope after she gets a tune-up fight, Kara can match up with Jelena, even in Edmonton. That would be one hell of a good bout.

And did you see St. John smiling while she let Mrdjenovich "pound her guts out"? Your disdain for Mia St. John the "bunny boxer" is also well known.

Hey guys where did you see this match? I want to watch it! Does anybody know where to find it? Thats the irony of the situation, Jelena and I are both Canadian yet none of her fights are on regular cable here, well in my area anyway. Americans get to watch them and nit pick and taunt her about it. How am I supposed to defend Jelena against you jealous Americans if I cant see the footage? No fair! LOL I dont know Mia and have never spoken to her but ive only heard good things about her like she is well spoken, extremely intelligent, and nice and this is from reliable sources to me. Ive even read her blog once or twice before and they are very well written and intelligent pieces so either she is paying someone to write that or she is just talented and as a teacher id give her an A. You cant get to where she is today by mere looks. She would have been exposed 5 years ago and be broke by now. Say what you will about her boxing ability but she still makes the money and thats what makes up a lot about professional sports.

AROTO skipped this fight in distributing bouts to Villagetelevision.com and Prizefightnetwork.com is airing older bouts. I doubt the fight will be available again. Mrdjenovich did not do well and AROTO would like to keep the bout out of viewer's hands. I suspect they wish it had not aired at all.

It also proves that Team Mrdjenovich needs to rethink its fight strategy and should pick opponents with little definsive skill.

Edmonton Sun September 2, 2006
By MURRAY GREIG, EDMONTON SUN
In the semi-main event, Edmonton's triple world champion, Jelena Mrdjenovich, notched a workman-like UD over "Hurricane" Olga Herron of Toronto - and afterwards was presented with the Canadian Boxing Federation's Walter Twinn Memorial Award as Canada's female fighter of year in 2005
"To be honest, this was a tough fight for me to get up for ... that's why I'd only give myself a five out of 10 if I was rating it," Mrdjenovich said afterwards.
"Fighting her for the third time, with none of my titles on the line ... it was just kind of hard to get motivated. I wanted to knock her out, but she's only five feet tall. When she gets down underneath my punches, she's hard to hit clean. I would've really liked to knock her out, but a win is a win."
NO WAY FOR REMATCH
Another rematch down the road?
"No way," said Mrdjenovich, who raised her record to 18-1 (11 KOs). "Fights like this are good for learning, good for trying out new stuff, but my next one will be at a higher level."
Herron, who bitterly complained about dropping a "hometown" decision to Mrdjenovich in their second fight here two years ago, was equally adamant that this was the last time they'll meet.
"Jelena's a great fighter, and she's proven she's a world champion. Fighting her again probably won't happen. She beat me tonight, fair and square. But like I said before the first one, there's no way she'll ever knock me out."

To: JR reguarding his comments about Mia "smiling" as her stomach was attacked by Jelena's punches.
Boxer's often smile to pretend they are not getting hurt in the ring. Happens all the time. I personally used to do it and so did my opponents (forty years ago) and that has not changed.

Also to JR.
Yes, I used to be very distainful of St. Joke in her early career (sic) BUT you may have noticed that after her fight with Martin I began defending St. John. She finally learned how to box properly and although she lost most of her fights with "real" decent fighters, she learned how to protect herself and go the distance with them. I am no longer distainful, but I do point out that she is getting relatively old for such a demanding sport. She said that the fight with Mrdjenovich would probably be her last, and I believe that would be a smart decision.

It also proves that Team Mrdjenovich needs to rethink its fight strategy and should pick opponents with little definsive skill. According to the judges’ scores, Mrdjenovich won three rounds, Heron won one round, and two rounds were even. The Edmonton press stated that the last three rounds were Heron’s best. As her record demonstrates, Mrdjenovich has difficulty fighting boxers with good defensive skills. And her conditioning is suspect since she tired in the Mia St. John bout after four rounds and either lost or tied the last three rounds with Heron.
