On June 3rd Mary Jo Sanders will be fighting Tricia Turton for the WIBA 154 lbs women's title. I don't think we should take Turton lightly!!! This is the year for the underdog. This will be another big upset in the history of women's boxing. Turton is in shape, she can go the distance, and she is not afraid to take a punch. Best of Luck Tricia.

Sanders (20-0) verses Turton (8-0) is an awesome fight! Sanders, the WIBA Welterweight World Champion, is moving up to 154 pounds to fight Turton, who's rated #1 by the WIBA at 154 pounds, for the vacant WIBA Light Middleweight World Title. i will be at this fight, and i will post this fights result in here. From the May 1 WBAN rankings:
Welterweight (147 lbs) 1. Holly Holm 13-1-2 (5 KO) score: 10162 2. Christy Martin 46-6-2 (33 KO) score: 9897 3. Mary Jo Sanders 20-0-0 (6 KO) score: 8154
Jr Middleweight (154 lbs) 1. Tricia Turton 8-0-0 (3 KO) score: 2294
It's WBAN #3 at 147 lbs vs. WBAN #1 at 154 ... Sanders has more experience but it won't be that big of an "upset" if Tricia gets the win, except in Detroit.

This is a much better matchup than Sanders' "boat ride" against Weston, which was a waste of TV time.
Turton has two wins over Lisa Holewyne, but, other than those, lacks any other "quality" wins. In fact, her other six opponents have a .333 winning percentage.
It can be validly argued that the depth of talent at jr. middle is not what it is at welterweight, but Sanders' resume features, in addition to a KO and a decision over Holewyne, considerably more wins against quality opposition. I'd make a Turton win a big upset.

Sanders wants to go up to 168 and challenge Laila; it sounds like when Floyd Mayweather said he wanted to jump from 140 to 154 or 160 and fight Winky Wright. I understand that Sanders has been in competitive bodybuilding and that she may be able to handle the weight gain and do it properly, but she's got a lot of fighters in that range that she can fight. I wouldn't fight Holly Holm though, I wouldn't want another bias Chris Cozzone piece on Holly if she got another gift decision.
