Belinda Laracuente boxed a four round exhibition with Lisa Brown Friday on the AROTO card in Lake Tahoe, then went to Los Angeles to fight a six rounder against Jessica Rakoczy (ended as a no contest due to an accidental headbutt in the third). She still has guts and lots of stamina even if her record has been poor as of late. She takes last minute bouts against good fighters in at least four different weight classes which few fighters would even attempt. I have criticized her recent record but I have to give her credit for this past weekend.

And Belinda Laracuente did well against Myriam Lamare last July, better than the scores indicate. Laracuente is a courageous and skilled athlete. It’s unfortunate that the contest with Jessica Rakoczy ended as a no-contest and the referee was correct in halting the bout. But Rakoczy is no stranger to head butts. On August 18, 2001 a head butt between Rakoczy and Mikee Stafford injured Stafford, pouring blood into her eye, hindering her performance and resulting in a unanimous decision for Rakoczy. Jenifer Alcorn was cut by a head butt with Rakoczy on January 17, 2003 but Alcorn persevered and received the split-decision win. On February 10, 2005 Mia St. John fought Rakoczy on short notice for the second time. Near the end of the second round, a Rakoczy head butt (ruled accidental by the referee) opened a large cut above St. John’s right eye causing blood to obstruct her vision. The ringside physician examined the cut and told St. John she could continue the fight. St. John’s corner determined the cut was more serious than the physician claimed and halted the fight. Rakoczy was awarded a victory by TKO. The cut was into the muscle around the eye and required 27 stitches to close the wound. This injury, so early in the bout, warranted a stoppage and a no-contest ruling. The bout was later broadcast on Fox SportsNet. For someone who uses a long-range jab as a favorite punch, Rakcozy has had an unusually high number of head butts in her contests. And the latest one affected her.

Belinda has skills, but the comp has caught up with her. She's had some long layoffs and wasted some talent along the way too.
