Mrdjenovich wins the battle but is losing the war.
Jelena Mrdjenovich’s second win over Franchesca Alcanter (a substitute for Angel McNamara) was not unexpected but is more proof that Team Mrdjenovich continues to avoid top competitors. The high-profile bout with Mia St. John scheduled for June 23 is more of the same.
Mrdjenovich will have to “fight the best girls out there” to earn the respect that comes with being a champion. Until then, her titles should carry the suffix “- Alberta Division.”
Mrdjenovich is losing the war to earn the respect deserving of a world champion.

I don't necessarily agree. Alcanter twice, Donna Biggers, and Layla McCarter twice (including a revenge win) are all pretty good fighters. Jelena shouldn't be ridiculed for fighting Mia St John. That's more in tune with winning a sweepstakes.

Public Relations and Damage Control by Team Mrdjenovich
MAY 24) WBAN received an open letter from Team Jelena Mrdjenovich, in regards to their title fight that took place on May 20th, in Yellowknife, Canada. They wrote the following:
"On behalf of Team Mrdjenovich, I would like to congratulate Franchesca, George and Larry on their professional performance in challenging for Jelena’s WBC title in Yellowknife NT. Not only did Franchesca put on a solid performance in the ring she was also a great ambassador for her country and female boxing while she was in Yellowknife. We had absolutely no problems in dealing with the Alcanter team, Franchesca and George assisted us greatly in promoting the event. We welcome any team into Canada that has such a positive attitude as Team Alcanter. Thank you Team Alcanter, you are welcome here any time." Team Mrdjenovich
Team Mrdjenovich should be thankful that Franchesca Alcanter filled in for Angel McNamara since considerable time and expense went into creating a boxing commission and organizing the event. But a better opponent should have been selected. Alcanter, a brave road warrior, was a safe substitute.
But a carefully crafted press release cannot counter the damage from the misleading, demeaning, and disrespectful statements issued by Team Mrdjenovich such as:
“The other three title fights - do people want to see those girls? They couldn’t punch” Scott Zerr, Edmonton Sun
Trainer Milan Lubovac’s comment about the three other title fights on the World Title Wave card of November 2005. This comment generated several call-outs to which Lubovac clumsily responded but no challenges were accepted.
“It was just like target practice…" Scott Zerr, Edmonton Sun Lubovac’s comment about the contest with Donna Biggers
"She's always taken safe fights and you can only do that for so long." Scott Zerr, Edmonton Sun
Mrdjenovich’s comments about Mia St. John at the press conference announcing their bout on June 23. St. John’s opponents have a combined record of 241-170-13, Mrdjenovich’s 119-127-17. St. John fought Jenifer Alcorn, Christy Martin, Jessica Rokoczy, and Holly Holm in their prime. Mrdjenovich’s only elite opponent has been Layla McCarter.
Team Mrdjenovich’s statements and choice of opponents deserve criticism. The criticism will cease if they ever find the courage to compete with top fighters.

That's more in tune with winning a sweepstakes. Alcanter and Biggers were clear underdogs against her, but my problem with Mrdjenovich is her team are now turning down the fighters she SHOULD be fighting to match their hype about her, and belittling them (e.g. Hallback) in the media while pumping up these softer opponents. Saying how "easy" they are to work with is a nice euphemism for saying how sure they are they can beat them, IMO. Kudos to Alcanter for playing her part in boosting women's boxing in Yellowknife, which is not exactly the center of the Universe, but the press release doesn't pass what Bobby might call the "hippo crit" test. ;D

I didn't know that much about her, other than she is good. I say give her a chance and see how she does with Mia, and who she follows up with IF she wins.
