Marcela 'Tigresa' Acuña retained the World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight belt by a majority (96-94, 96-95, 95-95) decision over Alicia Ashley Thursday night at the Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires.
Acuña had problems with Ashley's reach advantage later in the fight. Ashley lacked the punching power to make the most of her opportunities.

Acuña has also announced that she will retire from competition after one more fight, in December. She says she would like a rematch with Alejandra Oliveras, and that she sees undefeated Yesica Bopp as her successor in women's boxing in Argentina. Acuña was elected to a seat on the city council of Tres de Febrero in June, and she now plans a career in politics. She has played an enormous role in making women's boxing popular in Argentina.

Oh well I was hoping Ashley would win but I guess Acuna got the win she wanted and deserved. But I do have to say this when a fighter doesn't have punching power they need to use what they got and build a strategy around it. Most German fighters like Ina and even Alesia don't have punching power but win with straight punches and great teamwork with there trainers.

Yessica Bopp has some big shoes to fill, I think Marcela Acuna has done a good job of promoting women boxing and she has face a third of the best fighters of her time. However Bopp is a good fighter but she hasn't faced anyone...decent.. Bopp recently said she was going to try to get all the titles of the flyweight and face Susi K but I think she probably may fight Susi but she has alot of work ahead of her. However I am suprised all these boxers want to be politicians but like Regina Halmich, Marcela has chosen a successor but have not fought there successor to see if the title they give them is worth it.

Marcela Acuña was wearing a lot of blue makeup, it looked like...why? Rick, blue is argentina's colors on the flag. blue and yellow, for a political figure such as Marcela she has to wear her countries colors to be patriotic.
