Jeannine "G9" Garside, who notched her first world title (WIBA Jr Featherweight) in just her fourth pro fight after a strong amateur career in Canada, now has three straight losses on her record - against Chevelle Hallback (for the IFBA Lightweight belt ), Ji-Hye Woo (in S.Korea for the IFBA Jr lightweight belt) and Irma Balijagic-Adler (in Bosnia for Jeannine's WIBA Featherweight belt which she won by decision over Laura Serrano in 2006).

This fight takes Garside back to the small town in western Canada where she started her combat sport career, and will be her first fight there as a pro boxer. Instead of lining up an "easy" opponent for this home stand, she faces the always-dangerous Dominga Olivo, who fought Jelena Mrdjenovich to a draw in Mrdjenovich's home town of Edmonton in December 2007, and threw a scare into Layla McCarter in their first fight (July 2007, a mere majority decision for Layla, who did TKO Dominga in their rematch). Dominga's last outing was an 8-round split decision over rising prospect Ana Julaton, previously undefeated as a pro, on Julaton's home turf.

Garside desperately needs a win, while Olivo, who has one very dangerous weapon - her overhand right, is no stranger to coming into someone's hometown as an underdog and putting on a barn burner of a fight. We gave Dominga Olivo WBAN's "Best Kept Secret in Women's Boxing" award in 2007, while the Garside-Adler decision got our "Worst Rip-off of 2008" award (Adler was almost KO'd and reportedly nearly quit in a fight that Garside dominated - the sole neutral judge scored it 98-92 in Garside's favor.)

So what do you think - will Garside get back on the winning track, or will Olivo be able to rain on what may be the only "home town parade" of Garside's pro career?

Domingo Olivo is coming back from beating Ana Jualton
Domingo is a skillful oppurtunist and a strong mother with a tough right hand this fight can go either way. However the weight of a loss is a heavy burden to carry and a having a loss to hometown decision is never a nice cup of tea to be served. Garside mentally will be fighting against herself, with doubts and how to win once that bell rings, she is going to be hungry for a win.
I think Garside might win this fight against olivo because of the hunger for a win. Garside won her match against Adler, I saw fotos of that fight and Adler got creamed bad but she wasn't bloody but maybe groogy. Garside has had two continous losses now I know that one was a hometown decision but the other in South Korea I am not sure about, i haven't heard to much about it but I believe one thing for sure that this will definetly be an action packed fight.

Round One started with both fighters throwing good, crisp punches during the feeling-out period of the scrap.

Round Two began the same way with both punchers circling and throwing jabs with a few solid straight arms by both women who loaded up with wicked shots to the body and head.

Before the round was over though, Garside took a small cut over her left eye. Not a good thing to happen in the opening rounds of any fight. Most opponents would go after the cut to open it and cause blood to run into the eyes of the injured fighter — a situation that has caused ring doctors to stop many scraps. But kudos to Garside’s cut-man who patched the small tear and made sure it wasn’t a factor for the rest of the fight.

The third round was a repeat of the first two, with the exception both women got busier and all punches were thrown with maximum power that resulted in several wicked shots finding their marks on the bodies and heads of the two fighters. It was an almost even-sided round that made judging the bout tough.

Despite the magical work of Garside’s corner-man, the hometown champ’s face started to show the effects of Olivo’s speedy and crafty glove work, especially during the opening seconds of Round Four when the New Yorker planted a straight right hand to the puffing face of the hometown fighter.

The shot rocked Garside and rattled the teeth of many sitting ringside.

Yet Garside easily rebounded and again both fighters exchanged vicious blows that left no doubt in the minds of fight fans they were watching a pair of seasoned pros.

The fighters exchanged heavy blows in the fifth and Olivo got off a terrific right cross that momentarily rocked Garside who seemed to start favouring her right leg.

But whatever pain she was feeling didn’t stop Garside from planting the right foot for power shots, many of which found their mark.

Whether it was conditioning, ring-savvy or just plain guts, Round 6 is where Garside let Olivo know she was in trouble.

Garside took over the round and landed several power punches that went unanswered.

By Round 7 Garside was in almost total control of the fight. Not that Olivo wasn’t game, but it was Garside — with a badly swollen and nearly shut left eye — who got off quicker and controlled the pace of the fight.

Garside opened the eighth and final round with a crushing one-two combination that rocked Olivo and sent her into the ropes. That, and the smell of a possible knockout, caused the crowd to leap to its feet and cheer on their hometown hero.

Garside and Olivo drew on every last reserve and began swinging for the fences in the dying moments of the round that ended with both on their feet when the bell sounded.
