Salandy back in the ring
World female boxing champion, T&T’s Jiselle Salandy may be featured in a rematch with German-based Karolina Lukasik at the end of next month.
Boxing agent, Buxo Potts, who handles the affairs of Salandy, said yesterday that his fighter will be fighting either Lukasik or American Bonnie Mann, who is one of the leading contenders.
Salandy had a setback two weeks ago when she suffered a viral infection and had to be treated at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Following a final medical check up by a private doctor yesterday, Salandy was declared fit to resume full training.
“Although she started running during the start of this week, she will resume full technical training as early as Monday,” Potts pointed out yesterday at a press conference at Ma Pau Restaurant on Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook.
“Her illness is now behind her and she is now preparing for the upcoming event at the end of October,” Potts added.
Salandy danced her way to world boxing history in March when she defeated Lukasik by a unanimous decision to win eight belts in the championship fight on the card promoted by Superior Promotions, headed by Harry Ragoonanan.
“I will be preparing at full pace for the fight in October,” Salandy said yesterday.
The unbeaten fighter (9-0) will be under the supervision of physical trainer Winston Gabriel, coach Ulric Johnson and boxer Kevin Placide, who will be defending his WBE/WBC CABOFE super welterweight title on the same October card. (GT)
