How is MMA a fad? As someone who has been involved in the sport and has two ex's and plenty of friends who have benefitted from this sport for more than ten years, I'd love to know how it's a fad, especially when one of the top criticisms of women's boxing is that it isn't popular. I've said this before, you have to look at the facts and the true trends. Christy Martin and Lucia Rijker were popular ten years ago with Mia St. John. While we certainly have a great increase in the number of talented and well schooled female boxers, is it as popular as it was back then? And if it isn't, would that not, using your "logic", make it a fad?
MMA is not a fad. Right now, there are plenty of camps across the US that teach CHILDREN MMA; there was a report about this on ESPN's Outside The Lines.
If you're going to make throw away comments like that, you better back them up. Some of us are involved in both sports and want to see both of them prosper, if for any other reason, than for women to continue to break the mold here in the United States. You see, you have the word "Germany" in every other one of your posts, but one thing you need to realize is that at least over there in Germany, women's boxing is a lot more popular. Here in the States, we've still got a lot of people in power who are subscribing to the sexist Glass Ceiling complex.
There were so many critics who have called women's boxing a fad. And if enough people believe it, the sport suffers. The same thing with MMA. Luckily, unbeknownst to you, MMA is not a fad; it's a growing sport and as long as these dumb @$$ people don't vote John "I Ruined MMA Once" McCain into office, it'll all go smoothly.

Well MMA is a fad and once it become unpopular she might go back to women's boxing but you never know. maybe your right but nothing is truly written in stone.[/quote]
FAD? Justin, please. MMA is for real and will be here forever. It has EVERY kind of hand 2 hand in it. its the most basic playground type fighting in the world, with all the martial arts techniques added.
Look at the blood in every MMA fight. Its real and 5 ouncers-elbows-knees-feet will do that.
FAD? Hardly. Fans love it. And thrive on it. But the greatest MMA fighters will be the wrestlers that learn to box. Kicking is very secondary in MMA, but not boxing and not wrestling.
Go talk to the events director at any Indian Casino...offer them a PHONEY PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING MATCH, A BOXING CARD OR AN MMA CARD. They'll pay for the MMA card.
Boxing should be ashamed. It used to be an ALL OUT sport. Now it seems like phoney poetry...I'll dance around you, tap you when I can, run away for awhile, tap you again and because I extended my friggin fist, I WIN. Look at who WBAN names as champion fighter...its a joke. It should be "fastest dancer in boxing boots".
MMA gets down to it. And its gonna be here forever. Get used to it.

GOOD GRAVY YOU DUMPED TRASH ALL OVER ME and i opened my mouth to big so let me spit this out and clarify what I was saying first women boxing is growing maybe slower than MMA but I never said I didn't want the sport to suceed, I think as long as you aren't shooting a person people should do what they want but remember when you in a SPORT have GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP and even I FORGET THAT> Number 2 I am glad Kids are doing MMA it keeps them off the streets doing drugs and bad things but here is what I am saying also is when MILLION DOLLAR BABY came out everyone grew loving Womens boxing more and with single mother, mothers and husband and wife having boxing relationship such as trainer or boxer or promoter, people close the door of sexism and open the door to new things

Oh...Erin is doing American Gladiators? Sorry...didn't know that. In that case she probably never came back to boxing.

ummm...i don't know. I was never Galassi fan. By my oppinion she is not that good fighter at all. Look at her boxrec record. She never fought outside Italy. And her opponents...? But she is taller than Susi and she have longer arms. This could cause Susi some trouble. Just like Hockmi. Galassi definitelly wouldn't be finished that easy as Ortega. Sure, Galassi doesn't look spectacular, but she probably faced better opposition than Kentikian has at this point. The main reason I would expect the most competitive fight from her, is her considerable height advantage over Kentikian. As a three time amateur world champion, she should have the skills to use her reach and force Kentikian to fight from the outside. Of course I know nothing about her chin, she hasn't been tested in any of the fights I saw from her.

There you go again, man. MMA did NOT just start in Japan. Read up on stuff before you go making statements; that's what we're telling you. You cannot honestly expect to into a forum and say stuff without getting challenged. This is for discussion and debate; that's why you need to bring you A game and read up on the fighters and the histories before you just come in with this "barber shop talk." You're a cool person, Justin, I have nothing against you at all. You really add a lot to this forum and we need people like you to keep the sport going. But please understand that you've got people here who are involved in the sports and if you go making statements about something without knowing that much, you're gonna get it.
"The one true knowledge and wisdom comes from knowing that you know nothing." -- Socrates
Look at what TD said about Marcel. Now, Marcel was, at one time, a regular here, and if he shows up and sees that, he's going to respond and it'll be an all-out debate war. But see, TD has been around the block and has been in enough of these scraps (including a bunch with me, Bernie McCoy and Dee Williams) to anticipate this. So, you just have to get it together and understand that we do read what others say on this board.
In another thread, I said that Jennifer Barber is going to shred Brooke Dierdorff. teamnomercy may read that and go at me; but I expect it and look forward to it. I'm not going to flip out about it no more than when I told a bunch of Felix Trinidad fans that Roy Jones was going to beat him or when I told Calzaghe fans that Bernard Hopkins got robbed against their Slap Happy Joe.

Since Mia has the WBC light welterweight she should fight Natalie Brown or Cecilia Braekhus but I don't think she will come to America or Mexico to fight for the WBC.

She holds the WBC International welterweight title, not the WBC "Light Welterweight". Ann-Sophie Mathis of France, also the WBA Light Welterweight champion, holds the actual WBC Light Welterweight title,
