I get asked this question alot... WHY IS SCORING A UFC BOUT MORE HONEST AND REAL THAN SCORING A TYPICAL HOME TOWN BOXING BOUT?
This is really why boxing is in decline and while MMA is ascending. Even more perplexing, MMA is much tougher to score. For instance a takedown vs a knockdown vs topside control vs almost submissions...how to you award more or less scoring merits for each one of those vs a competing technique?
Simple answer to all of this: Dana White wants honest decisions. Most homer boxing promoters want their homer to win, no matter what.
Until the scummy homer promoter has ZERO influence over a boxing decision and until the state commissions bring in out of state officials, then boxing will continue to sink into the tar pits.
The least that fans and officials can do is insure any bout is fair and evenly matched.
Match ups are the other area... UFC seems to have better match ups than the average boxing bout. Why is that?
Again, scummy homer promoters who think the sport is all about feeding a mouse to a python. FANS want their hometown fighter to win, but they don't want home town slaughter. They want REAL evenly matched fights.
So now you have these little scummy hometown fiefdoms of boxing ill-repute that are killing the sport slowly for a pimple's worth of profit...and then you have the HOMER KILLERS...this is a special breed of fighter who has one mission--- STRETCH THE HOMER OPPONENT OR FACE A LOSS...its a new sort of boxing-darwinism...meaning the HOMER KILLER has to out and out convince the world they are the stronger-better fighter via an undisputable outcome.
That's why you take a light weight fighter like Ava Knight who throws punches at about the power of a 145 pound weight class fighter and totally flattens opponents.
Jeanine Garside who throws punches like she was chopping down redwoods! There is something totally pure and uniquely savage about turning loose that tornado like fighting that is always "on" in a Jeanine fight.
Even a Jackie Nava, who does not have great knockout power, but throws punches like a hurricane. When she was KO'd by Alejandra, she rematched her shortly thereafter with the intent on KO ing The Locomotiva...she didn't KO her, but she did pound her non-stop and won the rematch.
And of course, the Whacking Machine that is Sophie Ann Mathis...she is a force of nature that is on "A" mission, Knock out or die trying.
In the UFC, every fighter is from out of town, every UFC fighter is out to finish the opponent...you don't hear a UFC fighter saying, "Yeah I plan to dance around my opponent and take the decision...for dancing around them." << that just doesn't happen and won't as long as Dana White is running the UFC.
Not so in boxing which, in my opinion, is NOW late for the tar pit.
