according to boxrec (hardly an unimpeachable source) Mathis is fighting Yankovich April 29 and an unnamed opponent in June. I had heard Holm/Mathis in December. one thing is certain, Lenny will go where the money is.

IF it is Sophie-Mathis, and IF Holm wins the fight, will Ryan still proclaim that Sophie-Mathis is the best boxer at 147 pounds? This tuesday it looks like Holm and Fresquez will tell everyone who they are fighting in June. I think it might be Monica Acosta, but I could be wrong.

I think it might be Monica Acosta, but I could be wrong. Monica Acosta is currently #3 in WBAN's junior welterweight rankings, right behind Lamare (and Holm), so it would be a plausible match ... but what makes you think she's actually the one?

if it is Mathis, wouldn't this be the 1st time Holly fought someone that had the advantage in height and reach? Usually, Holly has these in her favor. That's correct, Holly Holm has usually had some edge in both, but will not when/if she faces Mathis. Braekhus would match Holm closer physically than most of her past opponents have, but Mathis would be the first to have a clear advantage over Holm. Mathis is unusually tall for a welterweight (5'11").

Both Cecilia and Lamare already have matches in June Even lamare has a June match for the wiba title and Cecilia is taking on Chevelle Hallback. I hope it is Acosta, or someone good, I don't think Myriam Lamare wants to come back to New Mexico and having Victoria Cisneros or Terri Blair fighting again wouldn't probably make a crowd. It could be Acosta or Clampitt or even Emery? Acosta didn't have an upcoming match and it was more of a hope and a guess than a promise.

The obvious problem is that Cindy has been inactive for a long long while. even though i am happy to here that Cindy Serrano is back in the boxing game, I would rather see Holm take on Esther Phiri, MOnica Acosta. This is the first time on record i have praised Cecilia for stepping up, I though Fresquez would step up as well but I guess I was wrong. This fight will end in TKO for Holm. Amanda Serrano has completely eclipsed her older sister in the boxing world. Fresquez you have let me down, now I am reduced to cheerleading for Cecilia...ugh..

I hope Holm's fans in New Mexico that usually buy tickets boycott this lame excuse for a fight. Very sad. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were still engaged in a spirited battle to win the Democratic primaries the last time Holm's next opponent fought in the ring. A travesty! Outlandish! My gosh, who will Fresquez drag out next? Sunshine Fettkether? Jason - glad to see a small crack in your attitude towards Braekhus. She is the real deal. If this is the approach that Holm/Fresquez want to take, maybe Braekhus' management shouldn't even try to negotiate a contract for a Holm - Braekhus event. If the fans stay away from the venue in droves for the Serrano fight, that would put a smile on my face Braekhus img831.imageshack.us/img831/2199/ceciliabraekhuss.jpg

Also Cindy Serrano has never fought at junior welterweight where Holm is now competing. She spent most of her boxing career fighting at featherweight or junior lightweight. She was once ranked as high as #4 at junior lightweight by WBAN but was #10 at lightweight when she was dropped from the WBAN listing for inactivity. She lost her last three fights, to Missy Fiorentino, Layla McCarter, and Jessica Rakoczy.

Can anyone find out?? Dee??

Well, folks, this is proof positive that Lenny and Holly are only willing to fight low risk opponents in their backyard.
Contrary to what T.S. Elliott said, Holly Holm is not willing to go as far as she can go - to risk it all and prove that she is the best woman welterweight boxer in the world - maybe in HER world, but definitely not in THE world.
This is why there is a real need for sanctioning bodies that strictly mandate who fights who and when!

"ACTIVITIES TO DO THAT WOULD BE MORE EXCITING/ENTERTAINING THAN GOING TO HOLM'S NEXT FIGHT" in no particular order: > take a nap > have a "Biker Movie Night" at home. some suggestions - "The Born Losers" - "C.C. and Company" - "Electra Glide in Blue" ... I think "Electra" is set in New Mexico. > go out into the desert and watch for another UFO to crash ala Roswell > play Trivial Pursuit > go to Dairy Queen and have a "Sundae Eating Contest." > watch the Weather Channel with the mute ON. > pull weeds in the garden > change the oil in your car/truck > Fishin' in the dark www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh3ml8gzrd4> and on and on and on... newmexicoboxing.com/holm-to-fight-serranoorange is a good color for Holm

Folks,
I don't what good this will do, but I sent a critical email message to Team Holm. This is what I said:
Holly, You may remember the quote of T.S. Elliot you used a few years back during one of your televised fights on FSN's Best d**n Fight Show Period. You were fighting Belinda Laracuente, if I'm not mistaken. This was the quote: "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."
Since you and Lenny are obviously dodging opportunities to fight either Anne Sophie Mathis or Cecelia Braekhus in Las Vegas, NEVADA, can you honestly say you've risked going too far to find out just how far you can go? I don't think so. This fight with Cindy Serrano - who hasn't fought in three years - is nothing but a low risk opponent, assuring that you aren't going too far - not leaving your comfortable confines of New Mexico - and not finding out just how far you can or are willing to go to find out if you really are the best women welterweight in the world. You may think so in YOUR world, but definitely not in THE world! This fight with Cindy Serrano is nothing more than playing the chicken and padding your record - now 29-1! If you are as good as you say or think you are, then you should be fighting opponents that are as good as you think you are. You're only as good as the opponents you fight or have fought! Okay, so you fought a fairly high risk opponent - Lamare - but where did you fight her at? You fought her in the comfortable confines of your own backyard of New Mexico, where most of your fights have been fought. To be honest about it, Holly, you haven't risked going too far yet; therefore, you've not found out how far you can go yet and the way Lenny and you are going, you may never find out how far you could go. Okay, Holly, here is your chance to prove that I and other unbelievers in you are full of it. Show me and others what you got! In other words, come out writing back at me here or on the Women Boxing Forum. I - here - or we on the WBF will be waiting for you. Come out writing and, 'Let's Get It On.'

Longjab...interesting letter. I think any Great fighter has to leave their backyard or give up the adjective.
Holly's Detroit fight was the best of her career. Going away from home actually turned her into a Tiger. It was really good to see. And her trainer gets a shout out because he really strategized that fight perfectly as well Holly, who fought using that plan/training.

Another change of opponents for Holly Holm on June 10th!
Since Cindy Serrano had to pull out of the fight, due to an injury, Holm will now be fighting Victoria Cisneros again.
At least Cisneros had the guts to fight overseas against Cecelia Braekhus!
You might say that Cisneros had risked far more than Holm has to see how far Cisneros could go.
Well, Holly, I guess the T.S. Eliot quote really doesn't apply to you, now does it?
It is time for you, Holly, to get off your chicken-liver butt and show the boxing world that the quote does apply to you or run your scared butt into MMA and stay there because you really don't want to find out just how far you can go because you and Lenny are too chicken to risk losing one or two to find out.
Just another safe fight for Holly at home, I guess, unless Cisneros shocks her into reality and drops her butt on the canvas, which would be a refreshing change!

Cisneros winning this match-up would be akin to the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team beating the heavily favored, evil Russkies. It would be a miracle, but they do happen every so often. A personal memo to Cisneros - "Watch the first "Rocky" movie about a dozen times before the fight. Pour every ounce of your being into training and preparation. And go kick some butt."

You actually have to have a plan, when taking on a champion, let alone any fighter. Remember Rocky didn't really put his guard up and took to many punches, Victoria can take the punches, but this match is a mismatch, it is as simple as that.

Longjab I really hate this card, both MAthis and Holm aren't fighting anyone worth while in June. Victoria Cisneros would jump in the ring with anyone with out any thought doesn't mean she is fearless, finding an opponent that isnt a mismatch but that is a good level, gives both the crowd and the fighter something worth watching. Mismatches like this just hurt the sport.
