for any forum members that love tattoos along with being a fan of women's boxing, run out and buy the JULY 2010 issue of "REBEL PINK" magazine.
it contains an article/interview written by Maria Ambrutto with photos taken by Dan Howell of Ann Saccurato and Melissa Hernandez. Now I make no bones about my extreme distaste for Hernandez. I will to the day I die hold the opinion that she disgraced herself and the sport of boxing by her actions last December, so I refuse to post any of her comments. Saccurato; I have respect for her, so here are some excerpts from her part of the story...
Q. For someone who has never seen you fight, which of your bouts would you tell them to watch to see you at your very best?
A. I have grown so much with every fight that I do not believe I have had my best performance in the ring yet... Although the pinnacle moment of my career to date, and possibly one of the best fights in women's boxing, was in 2007 against Jessica Rackoczy in California for the WBC belt. It was an all-out, toe-to-toe war for ten rounds; a true battle between two warriors from bell-to-bell, with both of us leaving it all in the ring. I was behind on rounds going into the sixth, but fought my heart out, landing some destructive blows on Rackoczy from the sixth round forward. The tenth round started with both of us hungry for victory, but ended with me knocking Rackoczy out with two seconds left in the round. That is without a doubt the highlight of my career so far.
Q. Which do think is a bigger challenge - being able to take a punch, or being able to keep your stamina over the course of a long bout?
A. The biggest challenge in boxing, in my eyes, is not being able to take a punch, but being able to maintain focus and composure in the later rounds as fatigue starts to set in. In regard to taking a punch - either you can or you can't. You have it inside or you do not. Of course there is always the chance you may get knocked out by a punch. Sometimes a shot lands just right, and the result is a knockout; that is always a possibility....Boxing is a true test of mental, physical and spiritual strength.
side note: there are some great pics included with the story - it's just too bad Hernandez is featured in some of them.
check out the magazine stand the next time out at the store.
