Go to ABC's request; what rules were you formed under. Do you get that? How did you, Isleta have authority to conduct public fights. NMAC would NOT be responsible, but ISLETA would be responsible to state what are the rules governing the fight that's going on in their casino. Surely you understand that implication? ?? Look, if NMAC has a set of rules and Isleta says, "we are not following NMAC rules" and YOU are fighting there, your ask, WHAT RULES WILL THE FIGHT BE CONDUCTED UNDER? Yours? Your Dads?, Texas AC Rules? Marqis D'Queensbury Rules? Its NOT speculation to suspect something is NOT straight up. If it was, answers would be provided to ABC right away. And the Indian Reservations have made compacts with the Federal Gov. to insure their is some level of fair play. Do you get how important that is? Again, how can you or anybody expect any fighter to know what kind of situation they are fighting under if NOBODY can quickly and easily point to a set of rules and say - THESE RULES RIGHT HERE. I have to believe they have stated that. But then you get a no-weigh in fight, a he-said/she said promoter-fighter disagreement and it all adds up to a huge black eye for the sport. You can imagine if this happened in Fla. on Seminole land or Uncasville CT., it would be a major blow out. But because its a "cowboy" deal, they can run to Fight Fax and try to get a fighter suspended BUT NOT provide prompt answers to real questions about fairness!!! And then you come along and miss the entire train-boat-plane...tsk tsk. Oh well, that's boxing. You want to try that explanation? And yet you wonder why fighters are so disillusioned with the sport. THEY GET JOBBED BY EVERYONE. INCLUDING YOUR RATINGS. TD

Of course Isleta is responsible for complying with federal law. Where in the federal law does it say that ABC is the enforcer? I am not missing any train-boat-plane, YOU are spouting about things being illegal when they are not, imagining consequences and infractions beyond anything that's been demonstrated, and generally firing off in all directions like an infant with a machine gun in a crowd SHOUTING about the need for gun control. Isleta commission needs to publish its rules somewhere to defuse such rampant speculation about them but it's entitled to HAVE them under federal law.

BTW "cowboys" were mostly honorable hard working folks. It's not accurate to confuse "cowboy" with "Wild West", even though many people do, thanks to Hollywood and other fables emanating from California. But random gunslingers may not know the difference

So you can fight for the Isleta Championship Belt and be Queen of The World INSIDE the Casino. Just don't step off the Casino's land. There never was an "Isleta Championship Belt" to which this comment by TD could apply. The world title fights held at isleta were actual world title fights because the bodies responsible for sanctioning those fights allowed them to take place there. There are serious issues here about the independence of tribal commissions, especially in NM, and about what agency is actually responsible for granting that independence. It doesn't help to add misrepresentation and speculation. While ABC is not the body responsible for supervising Isleta, it has come to its own decision about what sanctions to apply via FightFax, and has done so in a way that puts pressure on Isleta to act more like an ABC member in the future without penalizing the boxers who've already fought there in good faith in any way. I am glad the people who are actually looking into this from ABC have come up with a finely tuned response that should put pressure on Isleta to be more transparent about its operations in future. It might help if the world title sanctioning bodies added to that pressure now.

Dee- you nerd, you never heard of Queen Of Isleta Championship of the Universe???OMG! Where ya been? ? Meanwhile, read this quote from ABC's letter and then read ABC's narrative of question- lack of answer by Isleta; " It appears as though the Isleta Boxing Commission is working outside the federal law (Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996) governing the formation of tribal athletic commission. § 6312 Professional boxing matches conducted on Indian reservations
(2) Standards and licensing
If a tribal organization regulates professional boxing matches pursuant to paragraph (1), the tribal organization shall, by tribal ordinance or resolution, establish and provide for the implementation of health and safety standards, licensing requirements, and other requirements relating to the conduct of professional boxing matches that are as restrictive as –
1. the otherwise applicable standards and requirements of a State in which the reservation is located; or 2. the most recently published version of the recommended regulatory guidelines certified and published by the Association of Boxing Commissions.
The ABC Compliance Committee would like a copy of the Tribal Resolution passed by the tribe’s council creating the Isleta Boxing Commission, as well as a copy of the rules adopted by the Commission."
While appearances can be decieving, a simple answering of the phone call could have cleared up the confusion. But Isleta forwarded the call to the promoter? To Lenny Freq.? OMG, why would they do that? Do you get that implication? "Ah don't ask me, I dunno, talk to Lenny." LENNY? The Promoter? Camon Dee, this smells worse than Jersey City on garbage collection day. I was wrong, it appears that Isleta is BOUND to FOLLOW NMAC rules to insure safety of the fighters appearing under their (Isleta) jurisdiction. Somebody had better produce some REAL documents and answer the phone. Either that they make Lenny the Chief of Boxing and give him an office and a tribal member cut of the net! I can hear the recording now, "This is Lenny, I'm not home,er, I don't live here at Isleta Casino but leave a message at the beep, I'll get back to you before the end of the Mayan Calender....BEEEEEPPPP" Hey, I kid them down there. Maybe they have a honest explanation. And maybe they just guessed the weight. And spun the roullette wheel of pregnancy testing. You can do that stuff at The BFE State Fair. That's boxing, huh? TD

Hey, I kid them down there. Maybe they have a honest explanation. And maybe they just guessed the weight. And spun the roullette wheel of pregnancy testing. Good, let's leave it there for a while instead of playing guessing games. The longer Isleta provides no response at all, the deeper the hole they are digging for themselves with the outside boxing community. I figure they're keeping quiet for a reason, but I have no idea what that reason is.
BTW it was stated that Cisneros did have a recent pregnancy test (for the other fight that fell through) so that test may have been ok in fact but there can be no excuse for no weigh-in.
Note also that ABC said only what they would "like" to have from Isleta. No "require", 'demand", "insist", or the usual lawyer-speak that implies you will be in deep doo-doo if you don't comply right quick. "I'd like (a pony)" doesn't mean "you gotta give me (a pony) by Monday noon or I'll set six federal attorneys on you". It's wording that suggests they can't do more than ask, for that information from a commission that is not one of their members.
There may also be a ton of issues around who the pueblo council are willing to produce tribal documents to on demand. They may only want to show them to an agency that really does have a legal right to ask for them. Their idea of "soon" may not be the same as in other cultures, either. But somebody had better say something on the record fairly soon or else that last card at Isleta may be just that.

"IT APPEARS THAT ISLETA IS OPERATING OUTSIDE OF THE FEDERAL LAW" The revocation of the Fight Fax listing "APPEARS" to be the extent of ABC's authority. Except when the US ATTORNEY'S OFFICE hears the investigation facts that ABC "may" "possibly" " in all likelihood" will turn over to the US Att. in Santa Fe NM. Possibly. May be. But Dee, you have to be kidding if you think any fighter would want to walk into the Ring in Isleta ever again, weather they answer the phone at Isleta or not. IF Isleta had legal documents, they would produce legal documents. Chances are better than good they are reading up on said legal documents and trying to produce them right now. Look how quickly Isleta produced a suspension of Melissa Hernandez and how quickly all of NM Boxing quickly pointed to the Fight Fax suspension of Melissa while touting a fight conducted with NO regard for NMAC rules! Cozzone and WBAN were posting " a suspension of Hernandez" headline that turned into a "likely supsension of Hernandez in the first line of the story"...and they can't say how Isleta was formed nor certify they were abiding by NMAC boxing rules and regs. Put it this way, Isleta loses big time no matter what they say...IF they say nothing, they continue to look like bag men/boobs for the promoter, IF they say " we don't follow NMAC rules" they get the US ATT, and IF they say they were following NMAC rules they will get suspended for violating those rules. Do you get that? Isleta had enough "rules" at hand to make a suspension, yet they can't produce said rules on demand from ABC, a nationwide regulating authority of state boxing comm., which Isleta quickly used for revenge on Melissa. Just to be clear, ABC is a stellar orgainization. Without it, all of BOXING SINKS TO LEVEL OF PURE BS and this card would have went into the record books as FACT. And then your little computer program would have used those "facts" to produce ratings, ratings that some promoters might use to promote their next card, a card that promoter would make money off of. And the end, the fighter gets jobbed again. "Isleta, Domino's pizza on line two...No, Lenny didn't order a pizza, it sounds like those ABC guys......" This sounds pretty stupid right? Well it is. But its 1/200000000000000000 th as stupid as this situation is. TD

You really haven't been following (or remembering), have you? ABC rejected Isleta's suspension of hernandez and that's what started them in on asking questions of Isleta. Furthermore, ABC noticed that the information was sent to FightFax by John Montano, not by anyone formally associated with the commission, whose names they had and listed on their first letter. So stop asking me if I "get it'. You post so many un-facts or distortions of facts that you wouldn't know if I "got it" from the hole in your head. I don't "get" some of what you "get" because a lot of what you "get" is wrong.

I don't "get" some of what you "get" because a lot of what you "get" is wrong. NO DEE, YOU DON'T GET IT. John Montano was "Isleta's" ( whatever you label isleta in this situation) rep. / employee John Montano was one person who "isleta" forwarded ABC phone inquiries to regarding what authority "isleta" had from the Indian owners of the Casino. So for you to NOT recognize John Montano as part of Isleta means YOU don't get it. BUT LETS REVIEW; - Isleta/John Montano submits "fight results" and " Isleta comm." suspension info to Fight Fax. - ABC reads an internet chat board ( guess which one) that draws suspicion to the aftermath of the Hernandez vs. Holm fight card. - ABC calls "isleta" to inquire about their legal formation and about their required adherance to USA laws. - "Isleta" forwards ABC calls to John Montano and or Lenny Frequez regarding this incident. - ABC suspends "Isleta" suspension of Hernandez. Hernandez is NOT free and clear totally, just for right now as ABC is still investigating. -ABC does revoke "Isleta's" Fight Fax posting of Hernandez vs. Holm fight card results due to "Isleta" apparent violation of NMAC laws governing public boxing contests. - Dee misses the entire John Montano / Isleta relationship and thinks its just cultural lag on "Isleta" NOT answering ABC calls or forwarding ABC calls to John Montano and Lenny Fresq. whose names do NOT appear on ABC's letter to "Isleta". - The same John Montano who Dee specifies as the "authority" from "Isleta" who posted the Hernandez suspension by "Isleta" and the fight results from the Hernandez vs. Holm card. All of this may have answers that lawyers have to review and it may take some time. However, it did NOT take much time for "Isleta" to suspend Hernandez nor NM boxing and WBAN to announce that suspension. IMO, there was NO real examination and evaluation of what happened. It was revenge for Hernandez standing by her rights as a fighter to inspect her opponents hand wraps. IMO, "Isleta" ignored any reasonable set of boxing rules and put on an unregulated fight to replace Hernandez on the card. You can say "Cisneros had her physicals, they were in her car"..."we didn't need do a weigh in"--- that is what I describe as "cowboy" meaning roughing it. IMO, "Isleta" should "man-up" and accept their part in this fiasco and stop forwarding ABC calls to people who shouldn't be answering those calls. IF "Isleta" doesn't know the law/ rules, then hire someone who will take the calls. If John Montano is that person, then state that and stand by him. They make alot of money from gambling boxing fans. They should be able to afford correct staffing if they want to host/regulate boxing shows in their Casino. Take away from all of this; - ITS THE FIGHTERS BUTT/BRAINS ON THE LINE IN ANY FIGHT. THAT GIVES THEM UN-REVOKABLE RIGHTS TO NOT PARTICIPATE WHEN THERE IS REAL CAUSE. - ITS THE PROMOTER'S DUTY TO PUT ON A FAIR FIGHT AS MUCH AS THE REGULATING/RESPONSIBLE COMMISSION'S DUTY - THE PROMOTER SHOULD NEVER-EVER BE PLAYING CAT AND MOUSE WITH THE COMMISSION REGARDING CONDUCTING A FAIR FIGHT. THEY SHOULD BE ACTING TOGETHER TO INSURE A FAIR FIGHT. THIS SHOULD BE SELF-EVIDENT TO ANY PROMOTER WITH 1/20TH OF A BRAIN. - HOWEVER, PROMOTER'S LONG-TERM CONTRACTUAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH CERTAIN FIGHTERS CAN PUT THEM AT ODDS WITH THE COMMISSION AND THE SECOND FIGHTER IN ANY BOUT AND OR CARD. THIS MUST CEASE TO INSURE A FAIR PLAYING FIELD. IF BOXING CANNOT DO THAT, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BE SPIT UPON BY THE PUBLIC AND CONSIDERED A RIGGED SPORT. If you talk to Dana White he will tell you he contracts with BOTH fighters in any bout and has one desire, A FAIR-FIERCE-FAN FRIENDLY FIGHT. That's why the UFC is succeeding. If fighter A wins a fair - fierce fan friendly fight, Fighter A gets another fight with Dana. Its a positive self generating up-cycle of fan interest and fan admissions. Dana doesn't try to rig outcomes to suit a long term contract. Fighters generate longer termed contracts with every fight they appear in by going all out, by being in shape and by trying to knock out/submit their opponent. Its not some BS, "jab-tag, I outpointed you" scam that can be wrapped around the cover of "its the judges opinion" kind of BS. Its BAM, I dropped you- "judge" that! DO YOU GET THAT DEE? TD

So for you to NOT recognize John Montano as part of Isleta means YOU don't get it. Are you being deaf on purpose, TD? Montano was named by ABC in its December letter to Isleta as the person whose relationship to Isleta THEY (ABC) wanted clarified. In fact he is a former Arizona commissioner who was hired by Isleta as the Dec.4 event supervisor, as we have discussed before. ABC was apparently not aware of that relationship for this card because he is not a formal Isleta commissioner. I have referred to this in several earlier posts. You really fail to read on a massive scale while you jam your thumb into CAPS LOCK

- Dee misses the entire John Montano / Isleta relationship and thinks its just cultural lag on "Isleta" NOT answering ABC calls or forwarding ABC calls to John Montano and Lenny Fresq. whose names do NOT appear on ABC's letter to "Isleta". Like so much of what Tom De Napoli (TD) posts, this a complete distortion. I had stated that Montano was a former Arizona commissioner who was hired by Isleta to supervise the Dec.4 event. If that's "missing the entire relationship" I wonder what "getting" would be? Here's an example of my not "getting it" according to De Napoli. Isleta was entitled to use its own rules for supervising fights during those seven years, and it still is. But they screwed up in waiving some procedures to get Cisneros in the ring at short notice in December 2009, in trying to get ABC to back their "suspension" of Hernandez, and in having their hired event supervisor John Montano, who was an Arizona commissioner, report the information to ABC instead of doing it themselves. Isleta cut too many corners in December 2009 and now does not want to talk to ABC about it, it seems, but ABC knew all along that they were not an ABC member. ABC is now asking Isleta to behave like an ABC member if it wants to continue having its results recognized, and that's fair and proper. I also NEVER said it was cultural lag for the pueblo to not answer phone calls, I mentioned culture only in the context of why a pueblo might not rush to produce tribal documents on demand to external agencies with no legal right to ask for them. When a pueblo's asked to produce copies of tribal resolutions (in this case the ones setting up their boxing commission) by an outside agency that would "like" to see them, I can understand them taking a little time and consulting their attorney first. That's not the same context as answering or returning phone calls at all,

Rick Wright of the Albuquerque Journal is reporting that the Isleta Boxing Commission has now lifted Hernandez's suspension and that Isleta has responded to ABC, who have requested "further information": www.abqjournal.com/sports/live/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4195The Isleta Boxing Commission has lifted its suspension of Melissa Hernandez, eliminating the final obstacle to the resumption of the New Yorker's ring career.
The IBC had suspended Hernandez after she walked out on a scheduled Dec. 4 bout with Albuquerque's Holly Holm at Isleta Casino & Resort. Hernandez pulled out of the fight because no member of her camp had witnessed the wrapping of Holm's hands as is customary.
After a hearing at Isleta on Friday, IBC spokesman Edward Calabaza said the three-member commission felt Hernandez should have taken more responsibility in resolving the conflict that prompted her to leave the arena that night.
Each corner witnessing the wrapping of the other fighter's hands, Calabaza said, is not an IBC rule but a courtesy that must mutually be agreed upon ahead of time. Thus, the commission found that Hernandez breached her contract.
But Calabaza said the commission agreed that an offer from the Holm camp to re-wrap, made by promoter Lenny Fresquez, was not done promptly - causing Hernandez distress and lost focus.
"The commission felt that was a valid explanation," Calabaza said.
"I'm very satisfied (with the outcome)," Hernandez said in a phone interview. "The only thing I can say is that I didn't do anything wrong. ... I'm happy that I didn't go through with the fight, because at least now this won't be done again to another fighter."
Brian Cohen, Hernandez's manager, said members of the commission were "very professional" during Friday's hearing and "were appalled by what went on and how Melissa was treated."
Fresquez said he had no problem with Isleta's decision, but added he felt Hernandez had ruined her reputation within the sport.
"Good luck to her trying to get a fight," he said.
Hernandez, though, said she expects to be back in the ring next month - adding she still would like to fight Holm and would be willing to do so at Isleta.
"I would fight Holly tomorrow if (Fresquez) gave me the opportunity," she said.
"Not as long as I'm living," Fresquez said.
Isleta's suspension already had been lifted by the Association of Boxing Commissions, of which the IBC is not a member. The ABC originally honored Isleta's suspension but, because of concerns about how the Dec. 4 card was administrated, reversed its position on Jan. 5.
The ABC directed Fight Fax, its official record-keeper to remove "suspended" from Hernandez's listing and replace it with "Red flag, contact the Isleta (Boxing) Commission, failure to honor contract."
Calabaza and Cohen each said the red flag for breach of contract will remain. But now, if the IBC is contacted regarding a possible fight for Hernandez elsewhere, it will inform the inquiring commission that the fighter is not under suspension by Isleta.
Though short, Hernandez's suspension has been costly. She forfeited her purse for the Holm fight at Isleta, reported by Fresquez at $5,000, then lost out on a proposed bout in Denver with Albuquerque's Victoria Cisneros. It was Cisneros who stepped in and fought Holm on Dec. 4, losing a unanimous decision, after Hernandez walked out.
ABC-IBC: The Isleta commission has responded to the ABC's concerns regarding the Dec. 4 card - specifically, the process that permitted Cisneros (3-8-1) to replace Hernandez on such short notice.
ABC President Tim Lueckenhoff said via e-mail that he has spoken with Pablo Padilla Jr., an attorney for the Isleta tribe, and that an official response was received from Isleta last week.
Lueckenhoff said the ABC has requested further information. As of now, the Dec. 4 card is listed by Fight Fax as unsanctioned.
Calabaza said Isleta "respects the ABC and what it does, and has taken into consideration a lot of the items the ABC has pointed out."

Well now, it seems LENNY FRESQ. thinks Melissa Hernandez is the ONLY person/entity to walk away from the Holms-Hernandez Fiasco and IBC's "draw" ruling with a BLACK EYE.
"Fresquez said he had no problem with Isleta's decision, but added he felt Hernandez had ruined her reputation within the sport.
"Good luck to her trying to get a fight," he said.
Hernandez, though, said she expects to be back in the ring next month - adding she still would like to fight Holm and would be willing to do so at Isleta.

Lenny, do you think anyone wants to fight for YOU after this mess? ( Besides Holms) It was scored a DRAW by your venue/comm., if you want to call ISLETA a "boxing commission".
Sure Mel is going to have to take a pay cut, take fights she doesn't want and look 3 times as hard for any matchs, but the same outcome applies to you; you will have to pay more, your contracts will get looked at longer and will get disputed and fighters will HAVE to consider the circumstances of taking your fights. Not a real enticing set of circumstances surrounding that "aroma".
And it looks like ABC still has to "Sanction" ,in some way, Isleta for conducting a fight outside ANY reasonable set of rules. There is NO WAY they cannot do that and still have any respect. You pull a fighter out of the crowd, ignore the rules required and call it a real fight? No WAY. Never, ever. The public's interest, the fighters interest, the sports integrity is a stake.

Ok this is what Bonnie Canino (she sent it to Sue Fox and if you know Bonnie she doesn't say much often) has to say about the age thing and PLEASE don't just read it. Hear it!! Bonnie Canino says:
I am the quite one, but this age factor mentioned on FB needs to be addressed to a wider audience. I think the People, Commissions and the Media need to be educated on athletes, sports, boxing and age.
Sport’s age factor is when an Athlete stays in the sport competing for over 25 years or so years. Just like working a 9-5 job for a company, you retire from it to live on your porch (Lol) or at least not so intensely to do motivated labor where you can sit back and enjoy your success.
De la Hoya started when he was very young. Look how many fights he had as an amateur competing then his professional career. About 33 years of age, 30 years in the sport, yes, he should have retired. Because of; One – the abuse on the body, Two – the Drive or Motivation, and Three – Two prove what, to whom?
I am just using De la Hoya as an example. You can look at all athletes in sports, especially contact sports.
Boys start young, but a lot of times girls don’t and they don’t get that chance. Most women I speak to had never had a chance when they were young. Now their older and now they have that opportunity. They have the motivation, skill, physically and mentally and they can keep up, with no prior abuse on the body. Speaking in behalf of men and women, they are denied because some person tells them that they’re too old. Maybe in their eyes wanting to have an excuse or you don’t want it, but it’s unjustified to put a number on someone else’s head.
Look how many athletes have had proven that age was not a factor; Torre’s the swimmer for example, and there are others.
I retired not because I was too old to compete anymore, but after 21 years working to be on the top, 17 years competing to the top and stay there. The dreams and challenges in the ring, many of my fights were 10 to 12 rounds fight, sometimes with uneven stats behind them, because of the lack of female fighters in the beginning. I felt my drive, motivation and the obstacles I had to hurdle to show I was #1 were not that important. But it was what I experienced and what I thought was a good time for me to say “No Mass”. I can live, jump and run as fast in my body and still compete with my fighters for gratitude.
I retired because of my age in the sport not my chronological age, just as many other have done. I wish that I had fewer years in the sport because I am stronger, smarter, wiser and healthier in my 40’s as are most female athletes who compete today.

Yvonne...are you trying to say that you are ripped and ready to roll into New Mexico and put an all out whupping on Holm? Are you ready to rock the world? And throw for the fences? You know you can't possibly win a decision in New Mexico and you know the deck will be stacked against you...are you ready to fight the fight of your life? To figure out how to sprint and box at the same time? (LOL).
Step right up and throw down the challenge. That always the first step in winning. You say, "let me at her, I kick her butt from Santa Fe to South Albuquerque".
Well...? TD

Melissa Hernandez sent a press release to WBAN thanking the Isleta Boxing Commission for the fairness of its treatment of her at the hearing they had on January 15 and for taking the time to listen to what she had to say about what happened on December 4th. She goes on to apologize to the Isleta Boxing Commission for comments she made that were damaging and notes that the Isleta Hotel and Casino did an outstanding job "promoting one of the biggest fights in female boxing". She also says that she still wants to fight Holly Holm "and give the fans I made in Albuquerque a good show and a great fight".

One may forgive, but don't ever forget. I wish Hernandez all the best in her future as far as boxing goes, but Mr. Fresquez would be insane to ever consider giving Hernandez another opportunity to fight Holm. Stick to your guns Mr. Fresquez and let your words "not as long as I'm living" guide you and be a rock to lean on. They are powerful and wise. Hernandez will just have to continue her career never knowing what would have been the outcome if she had fought the "the people's champion" Holm.

In fact, later this week I'm going to call up my local trophy store and have an artistically ornamented wall plaque that states "not as long as I'm living" made up and sent to Mr. Fresquez. It may cost a little dinero, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

TD- My name gets thrown in with pretty much every fight from 147 to 160. I call out people often just not in public, that is not my style. But don't think for a moment that I am not talking. I just chose to do it one to one. I still beleive that the public want class from Women's Boxing. I promote Women's Boxing not Women trying to compete in Men's Boxing. Peace Yvonne

I met Melissa on Friday night and asked her if "Holly was still on her radar?". her reply: "DEFINATELY! she is my number-one hit."
Personally, I think the delay will lead to a bigger fight down the road, but the size difference will be difficult for her to overcome.
