You gotta love the guts on Melissa Hernandez at a listed 5'3" taking on 6'8" Holly Holm. OK, Holm is more like 5'9"...but I will bet Melissa is more like 5'1"!
Anyway, it's an interesting mismatch for HEIGHT and MAYBE GUTS. Can Melissa run down Holm? Can she knock her out? She can't beat Holm unless she lays her out.
Its a big disadvantage for Holm to have to punch "down" but since she doesn't punch much, that's gone. Its a SHOULD be a big disadvantage for Holm to run from everyone and this time that may play that way. Hernandez has the best female footwork in the sport. I mean, she could run all night if she wanted and NO ONE could catch her, but that's NOT her thing.
GO MEL! HOPE YOU GET A NICE RABBIT COAT OUT OF THIS...OR AT LEAST A RABBIT FOOT! ( it wouldn't be so wrong to stand on a "rabbit" foot would it?) MEL, YA GOTTA KNOCK HOLM OUT OR YOU ARE GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED.

She's beaten alot of people. Melissa Hernadez has on her side skill but Holly has experience. I don't want to say who i think might lose but i will say this. Hernandez having the guts like TD mention, is a great thing to have. I haven't seen many women go up to Holm and challenge her even though there are lot of fighters we would like Holms to fight. Me- I say Cecilia Braekhus or Myriam Lamare Bernie mentioned-Sophie Mathis One of the problems is that Fresquez talks a good deal but he's got to deliver and that is the problem. I am thankful that he has brought some boxers up with his promotions but you can't stay on Level 1 or Level 2 all the time some times you got to do the work and take the chance to go to level 3. However i do wish Melissa Luck and I hope she knockes out Holm.

Jason, here's just one of the problems Melissa has, catching the rabbit. Holms runs and runs around and around. On my card she loses points doing that. As Christy Martin said, its a fight not a track meet. I only saw 3 rounds of Martin-Holm and Christy made the fight, chase Holm around and from what I saw, landed all the bombs. The pictures posted here of that fight were all shot by the local photog.
The other problem is NM judges who see "running" as ring generalship...I can't call that effective aggression but when you add it all up, THEY DO CALL IT THAT IN NM!
I have yet to hear a fighter say they received a fair decision/outcome down there. I scored the Holm-Saccurato fight 3 times, trying every which way I could to favor Holm. NOT once did I come up with a score where she was on top.
If Mel can trap Holm ( she'll have to wear roller skates) and bang her around, pound her body and look to throw a "looper", she might have a chance. Holm I think has ZERO chance to actually win and a 99.9% probably that she will win! Mel should watch Holm vs. Trish Hill kickboxing...Hill flattened Holm with a mighty overhand right. That was the birth of the rabbit, so to speak.
Go Mel, Knock Her out!

I have not seen any of holms fights especially the one against Ann that you mention. I agree that the judges on NM are a problem but I watched a youtube video of Duda Yankovich fighting HOlm, this looked like a mismatch to me but Holm she clearly had a whole lot of power and could have ended the match sooner except she kept waiting for something. That is why i say she is much more of a snake than rabbit or boxing kangaroo because she doesn't hop. Even though i did see a boxer actual try bouncing an punching at the same time. NO holly moves, strikes and hold a whole lot of holds.

Jason, NO doubt, Holm's fight VS Duda was her best performance ever. She looked sharp, she looked like a fighter.
Duda fought like a heavy bag. I have never seen anyone, aside from the Great Ali, lay back, cover up and let the opponent wail away like Duda did. Maybe she froze, maybe she hit her head on a 2X4 before the fight, whatever, she was NOT in the ring. I do think Jessica Simpson could have KO'd Duda just as quick. Like I said, heavy bags get hit, often and hard, do they NOT?
Back to reality, go to youtube and watch Melissa sparring with stay lo and you can see what a physical mismatch this fight looks like on paper. Can Melissa turn it into a real fight? She can easily do a HOLM NUMBER ON HOLM ( run for 10 rounds) but thats a sure loss. And Holm can do a HOLM NUMBER ON MELISSA AND EASILY WIN. Therein lies the task.
I still love Melissa's guts for taking this on, in lyons den, where the eyeglasses are made from the bottoms of Coke bottles. Hey, its the Duke City way,is it not?

TD I don't know what type of city NM is, however I pray if Melissa does win, that she doesn't get cheat but i do doubt it though because Melissa has a big (no offense to her) mouth and she would never let Holly Holm leave in peace about it. Duda Yankovich was called the best but she wasn't the best period thats partly why she got beat like a ragdoll. Duda Hadn't fought that year just like most of Holms opponents. The problem is that fighters are always called the best because they win, few ever look at record. A winner and champion have become a simple label that you can buy after such-amount of wins. Hernandez and Holm will hopefully put on a good showcase.
