Just a comment on the 3 minute rounds. I train and spare on 3 minute rounds and would find it no problem to go . (Most of us do) But if the promoters don't pay better why fight longer for the same money? I will fight for 3 minutes if you pay me, that is what I think most of the female fighters will say. Plus the round times do break up an all male bout. It changes the rhythm which is not a bad thing for promoters.

Hey Yvonne,
A couple of observations on 3 vs 2 minute rounds;
- more pay per round is not ever gonna sit well with the average promoter. hell, they greatly underpay at 2 minutes per round.
- longer rounds are fine, if the intensity and action does not change. To date, almost every 3 minute female fight I've watched did NOT come close to a 2 minute round version. This is NOT in the interest of fans.
- I think the arguement that women have to prove something by fighting 3 minutes is absurd, everybody knows they can. Hell, they run 26 mile marathons don't they? So the stamina challenge is moot.
- my point is women throw more punches per minute therefore women deserve larger purses per 2 minute round. Yeah, women are underpaid. Their 2 minute rounds are usually more exciting than males 3 minute rounds. Personally, most mens bouts have turned into boredom fests except at the championship level. I would hate to see that happen to women because then it would be over.
- men will never change to 2 minutes, but I do propose a one point penalty for any man who doesn't throw a certain amount of punches per round. Sort of like the 8 kicks per round rule in early kickboxing. Great rule and made kickboxers kick. That would help men's boxing.
- women's boxing needs more knockouts...not from exhaustion, but from skilled, focused, intense aggression.They are throwing punches but NOT knocking out opponents therefore the skill level needs to greatly improve.
- take Lucia Rijker, ask her what round length she prefers...likely to say ANY LENGTH BECAUSE IT WON"T GO THE DISTANCE.
- if women are trying to leverage a 30% pay increase based on 30 minutes vs 20 minutes...that's not going to happen. BUT if you knockout 30% more opponents, then a 200% pay increase is NOT an absurd expectation.
That's the one key for the sport, skilled-focused aggression, IMO.
