Layla is requesting commissions approve 3 minute rounds also in championship fights to go as many as 12 rounds. Warrior is a good heading for the title. I hope everyone takes a minute to click, this is a very important agenda I do believe. wban article week of Oct 19th, 2009 www.womenboxing.com/NEWS2009/news102209mccarter.htm

I don't think there is anyone who would argue against 3 min rounds Fights are too close and inaccurate most of the time w/ 3 min it gives more time for some more action and something to happen or one to fall.

keep 2 minutes, but increase the number of rounds for more experienced fighters. Six two-minute rounds equals four three-minute rounds.

First off, why do women want to model their sport after men's boxing? Men's boxing is terrible, its boring and its dying. Much in part to BORING 3 MINUTE ROUNDS and somewhat in part to MMA.
If women go to 3 minute rounds, they will head down the same road that mens boxing went down...boring, dance around, threw fewer punches etc.
It makes NO sense to follow the donkey leading the pack. That donkey would be male boxing.
However, 4 rounders and 6 rounders are pretty lame. They should NEVER fight under 6 rounds. Title bouts should be 12 rounds. Why can't that happen first?
I've seen a few women 3 minute round fights and they really did get boring, sloppy and un-interesting.
2 minutes is great. Matter of fact, a minimum punch per round rule would help men's boxing. Women don't need a minimum because they throw. They don't throw as powerfully or technically as good as men and that is one area that needs to change.

TD I don't agree some of what you mentionedl, lots of womens fight end controversial and i think going to 3 mins or even 5 min per round is up to the fighters, promoters and commission and managers. Some people can use 2 mins effectively, some can not but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try it for some. Putting limits on anything makes it uninteresting but you did mention some good ideas as well TD Rick mentioned a good idea, more rounds would be better

Canadian Lucia Larcinese makes some pertinent points concerning this topic, BUT...... www.womenboxing.com/NEWS2010/news0415101arcinese.htmfor a long time, I've been of the mind that 3 minute rounds would be the better alternative. But now, I would have to say keep the rounds at two minutes but increase the number to 12 rounds. After watching the HBO pay-per-view from Cowboy stadium in March, I would have to agree mostly with the comments of TD. The undercard bouts were about as exciting as watching ants build an anthill. Even Jim Lampley was aghast at how boring and unexciting the fights were. And Joshua Clottey did absolutely nothing in the main event. So 3 minute rounds, in my opinion, are not the way to go. But before Holly Holm retires, I would like to see her in some 12x2 fights. But I do respect the opinion of Lucia and Layla McCarter. ps, I've seen some totally, amazingly BORING mma fights as well.

I believe 3 minute rounds would benefit women boxers who possess POWER...the extra time would create an opportunity to follow up on the damage you have done, it would also allow for the swelling and/or bleeding that might occur from your blows to have time to develop and possibly cause a TKO stoppage and it would increase the chance of fighters who love to run to slow down just enough for you to reach them with that power

Marianne, (nice post) and to be sure, most boxing fans will have to agree. For example, here is what Jim De Pierro wrote a few years ago on this very subject. "As a lifelong fan of boxing there a couple of things that really bother me about women's boxing. It is not because I am a chauvenistic male jerk and I can't bear the thought of two women bashing their skulls in for my entertainment. That I have no problem with. I guess my number one peeve with women's boxing is that the rounds are only two minutes. Two minute rounds cheat everyone. As a fan I am only getting two thirds of the action in each round that I would normally get if I were watching two men box. Two minute rounds are also detrimental to women fighters in several ways. The women get one third less action so thus they won't be able to get as much experience as a male fighter from one fight making it harder for them to develop their skills. Two minute rounds also hurt female fighters marketability because let's face it the name of the game in boxing is to get KO victories on your record if you want to make big bucks. It's harder to get a kO if you have two minutes every round instead of three. That's one reason why women fighters tend to not have too many KO's on their ledger." www.eastsideboxing.com/boxing-news/ali-martin-predictions.php

Try to remember, women go at it very hard and fast over 2 minutes. They know that they have to throw, that they really can run, that they can tire out an opponent and then steal the round in the last 15 seconds. I think they need to develop much better technique, better conditioning and more desire to do some damage. Men's boxing should go to 2 minutes. It would save their side of the sport. Guys would get so busy that the # of KOs would rise. When you think about the best male fights, they were REAL fights...watch Hearns-Hagler...it was on every second of the round. Seldom do you get that action in a typical men's fight. Men are losing fans NOT gaining them for boxing. Imagine Manny dancing around the ring for 3 minutes...bye bye fans. He throws. And he keeps throwing. For 3 minutes or 2 minutes. His fights are great to watch when he gets an opponent that throws back. The ones that don't throw, are "boxers" and those are "dogs" to watch. There is NOT alot about men's boxing that I think that women should copy. I would adjust the 10 point must win round scoring system must to allow 1/2 points...and I would take away ( penalize) by 1/2 point any fighter that is NOT fighting, after 3 warnings over the course of the fight they would be DQ'd. Then you get fights, not dances with gloves. Anyway, keep throwing hard. A real judge will see YOU making the fight and do the right thing and give you credit for that. You take 2 fighters, one throws 10 punches and misses all 10 and one throws 2 punches and misses both- you have to score for the fighter making the fight and throwing the 10 punches. And not fakie punches from 8 feet away. IMO! TD

second line should have said, "..., that really CAN'T run, that they CAN'T time out an opponent who CAN steal the round in the last in the last 15 seconds."
basically, as you know better than anybody, YOU GOT TO GET BUSY OR YOU LOSE!
